Our Story
Early and contemporary music, one practice.

The ensemble
Cappella Atenea is a music ensemble founded by graduates of Higher Music Academies and Universities in Greece and abroad. Its goal is to bring early and contemporary music closer together through historically informed performance.
Historically informed performance asks how music was heard by the people it was written for: the instruments, the size of the group, the articulation and the rhetoric of a phrase. Cappella Atenea brings the same questions to music written now, so that early and contemporary works can be heard as parts of one practice rather than as separate specialisms.
In the concert hall this means programmes built across centuries — a divertimento by Mozart beside Bartók and a contemporary Greek work, or Telemann’s moral cantatas in dialogue with Vivaldi.
Across time
